The device has two metal bars that sense the closure of the pores on fingers when stress hormones in the bloodstream are lowered. Users must lay their first two fingers over the unit so they are in full contact with the silver metal plates while resting their wrist and arm on the tabletop. There is a wheel users must adjust until the tone of the device is a soft midrange tone that is about the same pitch as the human voice. Users should make the tone go lower until it almost disappears, without moving the wheel. During this process, some people Consciously relax the muscles of their bodies or imagine they are in a relaxing place. Once the tone goes away for 5-10 minutes twice every day, users stop using the GSR during the day and begin to imagine doing the same things that lowered the tone before whenever they notice they are stressed.
