Blu-ray Editorial Review
**** "Flow" (The Criterion Collection), directed by Gints Zilbalodis, has captivated audiences with its deeply moving animation and thought-provoking storyline. The film is a fable of survival featuring a diverse group of animals, with a central focus on a dark gray cat navigating a post-disaster world. The absence of dialogue, replaced by minimalistic music, natural sounds, and animal vocalizations, allows viewers to immerse themselves fully in the narrative without distractions often found in mainstream animated films. Critics have praised the emotional depth of the film and the skillful portrayal of the animals’ bond during trials and tribulations, capturing emotions that resonate universally. From heartwarming moments to instances of peril, the film showcases a rich tapestry of feelings, making it relatable and poignant for viewers of all ages. Several reviewers noted how the film engenders discussions about the animals’ experiences, emphasizing themes of hope, teamwork, and resilience. Visually, "Flow" has been lauded as a stunning work of art, with detailed yet intentionally understated animation that adds to its charm. Audience reactions indicate that even those unaccustomed to a non-dialogue format enjoyed the storytelling and aesthetic quality, finding value in its artistic storytelling. However, it is worth noting that some scenes may be distressing for younger viewers, highlighting the importance of discretion when sharing the film with children. Despite some criticism regarding its simplicity and art style, the overwhelming sentiment from audiences is one of admiration and respect for the creativity and emotion behind "Flow." Overall, the film has not only earned its accolades but has also established a loyal following excited for future works from Zilbalodis. **
