- Two to one (2:1) improvement over points in current fall time, increasing coil output. Optimal performance achieved when used with our Flame-Thrower coils (P/Ns 40001, 40011, 40101, 40111)

Question:
Is the Petronix 1283 a 12 volt unit ?
Answer: Yes 12v. They do offer a 6v pos ground unit as well(pn 1283p6). -
Question:
Does this work with a positive ground system?
Answer: Negative ground. I converted my flathead to 12volt negative ground, with this and the flame thrower coil. Works great! -
Question:
Does this work on a 239ci 1951 ford flathead
Answer: This electronic should work with the flathead engine bbuilt during this time frame. -
Question:
Will this work on the 337 'big block' flattie? Rear mounted distributor.
Answer: The Pertronix catalog lists on page 10 part# 1283 as correct for that application. You would have to add a suffix to that # if you want a kit for 6 volt positive ground (add suffix P6) or 6 volt negative ground (add suffix N6 )or 12 volt positive ground(add suffix P12). -
Question:
Does this work using the stock rotor button
Answer: I do not see a problem as long as the rotor button is stock to the distributor, which is the key. -
Question:
I have a mallory dual point distributor for my 1949 ford flat head v8. would this be the correct part# to convert to a pertronix ignition?
Answer: Yes. The 1283 electronic point are recommended for 1949 to 1953 flathead engines. If the car has not been converted to 12 volt negative ground, the points can be order for 6-volt positive polarity by adding P6 to the part number.
