Rated: R Format: DVD Comedy Editorial Review
**Editorial Review of "Polyester" Criterion Edition** "Polyester," directed by John Waters, presents an outrageous and hilarious excursion through the genre of camp, showcasing Waters' signature style of tasteless humor mixed with a deep satirical undercurrent. The film's narrative revolves around a seemingly typical housewife whose life spirals out of control, only to regain hope through a series of absurd and outlandish circumstances. Divine's performance stands out as a highlight, bringing both charm and outrageousness to pivotal scenes that cultivate a rich comedic experience. This Criterion Collection edition has garnered praise not only for enhancing picture and sound quality but also for its robust bonus features that deepen the viewing experience. Included are interviews that offer insight into Waters' creative process, behind-the-scenes photos, and a collection of deleted scenes that add extra layers to the story, demonstrating the film's whimsical take on the melodramas popularized by directors like Douglas Sirk. Critics appreciate how the released material reflects Waters' artistic vision while providing a fresh treat for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. Many reviewers express joy at the film's blend of humor and commentary that appeals to the thinking viewer. Notably, its compact running time has been a frequent point of admiration, reinforcing the notion that the film is succinctly crafted, leaving audiences eager for more. However, some have critiqued the introduction of the Odorama experience, suggesting that its execution could have been improved. Despite minor drawbacks, the reception highlights "Polyester" as an enduring piece of cinematic art that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, solidifying its place in film history. Overall, the Criterion Collection's release of "Polyester" stands as a testament to the film's cultural significance and Waters' unique voice that continues to resonate with audiences today. **
